Description: An acceptable first edition copy of Tarkington's follow-up to Penrod in the first state binding with the publisher's name stamped in black at the foot of the spine. Tipped in is an additional leaf signed by the author and inscribed and dated 1944. Damp stain from page 275 through the rear free endpaper appearing very faint except for a the last 20 pages (see photos). Cover illustration has worn off the green cloth. Binding is solid with relaxed hinges. Very light shelf wear to edges.
