Description: First edition. INSCRIBED on front endpaper. Near fine with spine ends bumped, minor rubbing along the edges, and a few small marks of soiling to the spine. In a very good or better dust jacket with a touch of soiling and rubbing, and shallow chipping to spine ends and corners, but otherwise minimal wear.

Description: SIGNED. 232pp. Octavo [19 cm] Red cloth covered boards with a gilt stamped title and ornamentation on the spine, and the author's initials embossed on the front cover. Very good, with light rubbing at the spine ends and corners, and a slight forward lean to the spine. With the dust jacket, designed by Harry Roth, in very good condition. The extremities are lightly rubbed and chipped, and the rear panel and the flaps are mildly darkened. The accompanying black cloth covered slipcase is in very good condition, with moderate rubbing to the surface and subtle fraying of the cloth at the head and tail. Sharp copy of this western by the author of "The Postman Always Rings Twice." Inscribed by James M. Cain on the front free endsheet.
