CATHER, Willa. One of Ours [SIGNED AND DATED]. Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 1922.

Price: US$4000.00 + shipping

Description: First Trade Edition. Original tan cloth. Seldom encountered signed and dated first trade edition of Cather's Pulitzer Prize winning novel. Inscription at front endpaper reads simply, "Willa Cather / November 17 / 1925". Cather was giving a lecture at the University of Chicago on this date and presumably this copy was signed at the event for Louis A. Kohn, a prominent Chicago lawyer and associate of Adlai E. Stevenson, whose ownership signature accompanies Cather's at endpaper, his bookplate also resides at front pastedown. The lecture was given at Mandel Hall to a capacity audience. Cather did not feel the speech went well and blamed it upon the ugliness of the lecture hall. She wrote a letter to a friend that the place made her feel wretched and caused her to stutter. This copy married to a contemporary dustjacket with '4th Large Printing' plug at spine. Very Good firmly bound volume, some soiling to spine, spine end cloth rubbed, endpapers display soiling.
