Brown full cloth binding with black stamped illustration on front, copper stamped title on spine, and brown endpapers. Covers show edgewear to bottom edges and spine ends. Heavy rubbing to back cover. Copper is bright. Tail of spine bumped. Lower corners bumped. Dust jacket shows creases, scratches, and heavy edgewear to all extremities. 1/2" closed tear to top edge and 1/4" open tear to bottom edge of front panel. 1/2" closed tear to top edge of back panel. 1/4" puncture to rear panel joint. Sunning to spine. Chipping and rubbing to spine ends and corners. Verso of dust jacket shows heavy age tanning. All edges show age tanning and light spots of foxing. Price written in pencil by previous seller on front free endpaper. Title page shows heavy edge tanning and small mark with offsetting to front free endpaper. Hinges strong. Binding loose in a few spots but sound and square. Pages show edge tanning and a few small creases throughout but otherwise clean and unmarked. 112 pages. 8 X 8-1/4.

As well as both being English professors at Mississippi State University, Peyton W. Williams, Jr. was Editor of MISSISSIPPI QUARTERLY: THE JOURNAL OF SOUTHERN CULTURE and his wife, Jerry T. Williams, also served as Associate Editor. Features a frontispiece and a six page Foreword by Welty about her photographs and their impact on her writing followed by 98 b/w images of Depression-era Mississippi organized within four parts titled as "Workday," "Saturday," "Sunday," and "Portraits.". ONE TIME, ONE PLACE was the first published collection of Welty's Mississippi photographs and this first trade edition followed a special limited edition of 300 signed and slipcased copies. Description: Quarto, 111pp., illustrated. A crisp, clean copy, near fine, in a very good dust jacket, a bit sunned on the spine, and with some minor discoloration at the base. An exceptional copy, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Welty to Agnes Sims on the front free endpaper in the year of publication: "For Agnes, with love, From Eudora. December 1971." Agnes Sims, a painter, was the longtime partner of Mary Louise Aswell, the fiction editor at Harper's Bazaar. A warm inscription on one of Welty's most interesting books - a photography volume with snapshots that she had taken as a young woman working for the WPA in rural Mississippi.
