Description: Edward Arnold, London, 1908. First edition of Chapman's classic work, which covers safaris in East Africa in the early 1900s. Octavo, original pictorial grey cloth, gilt titles to the spine and front panel, illustrated with 170 illustrations by the author and E. Caldwell sketch-maps and photographs. slightly shaken very good minus signed by the first owner and comes with the old Ben J. Selkirk catalogue slip from the 1950's , in very good minus condition with some rubbing to the extremities. Abel Chapman was an English, Sunderland-born hunter-naturalist. He traveled the world as a young man, shooting big game and wild birds for pleasure. Trophies from his hunting trips adorned the walls of his home at Silksworth Hall in the late 19th century. Today his stuffed animals can be seen on display at Sunderland Museum, the National History Museum in London and the Great North Museum in Newcastle.

Description: Brown cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine and front. Image of an elephant to front board. Boards are generally in good order, just shelfwear. Corners are bumped, edges are worn. Spine has bumping to ends. Dedication plate signed by the author pasted to ffep dated 1909. B/w frontispiece with tissue protection intact. Just the odd spot of foxing here and there. 340 pp + adverts. Additional photos are available upon request. When securely packed this item will weigh in the region of 1328g.
