A fine copy, in near-fine dust jacket, unclipped, with very slight rubbing to rear panel. First edition, first impression, presentation copy, signed and inscribed by the author on the title page: "To Jim and Diarmud[?], my good friends. John" [the second name is not clear but very likely Diarmud, a popular Irish name - Gardner was a resident of the Irish Republic at the time of publication]. The author has signed for a second time in full, below his printed name, which he has crossed through. This copy is from the significant Ian Fleming collection of Martin Schøyen (b.1940), with his bookplate.
