A fine copy, in near-fine dust jacket, unclipped, with very slight rubbing to rear panel. First edition, first impression, presentation copy, signed and inscribed by the author on the title page: "To Jim and Diarmud[?], my good friends. John" [the second name is not clear but very likely Diarmud, a popular Irish name - Gardner was a resident of the Irish Republic at the time of publication]. The author has signed for a second time in full, below his printed name, which he has crossed through. This copy is from the significant Ian Fleming collection of Martin Schøyen (b.1940), with his bookplate. Schøyen's private collection of manuscripts, which span all cultures and all time periods, is one of the largest and most comprehensive of its kind.
