Description: 1st/1st Ticknor and Fields Boston 1868. First Edition, 1st/1st (see, e.g., BAL 12150). Brown cloth and decorated in gilt (especially bright to front). 1st Printing, containing the 'TF' device at the bottom of the spine and pendants in the device solid. Textblock is FINE. Boards nice, sunning to upper board edges and spine (including light chipping/rubbing and wear to cloth at spine ends). 179pp; provenance via bookplate to front pastdown as noted; Longfellow signature, etc., long-since tipped in prior to Title Page. Leaves are bright; no foxing. With bookplate and from library of George Henry Sargent (1867-1931), American bibliographer and journalist, was associated with the Boston Evening Transcript from 1895 until 1931. He wrote books and articles on bibliography and a column, The Bibliographer, about rare books 'The New England Tragedies' is a long dramatic poem composed of two dramas, each with a prologue and five acts. The first is titled 'John Endicott' and the second is called 'Giles Corey of the Salem Farms'.
