GIBSON, William.. Neuromancer.. West Bloomfield, Michigan: Phantasia Press, 1986, 1986.

Price: US$4842.88 + shipping

Description: First US hardback edition, first printing, inscribed by the author on the title page alongside his large ink sketch of a neuron, "Wm Gibson, Atlanta '92". This Phantasia edition carries the atmospheric jacket illustration by Barclay Shaw, a frequent nominee for the Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist and recurring figure in the top ten rankings of the annual Local Poll Award for Best Artist. A landmark of modern science fiction, Neuromancer immediately defined the then-fledgling cyberpunk genre. It was first published as an Ace paperback in 1984, followed later that year by the first hardback edition, issued in London. Such is the attractiveness of the Phantasia edition that, in another inscribed copy we have handled, Gibson called it the "Deluxe" Neuromancer. This copy is one of 1,200 from the trade issue, published simultaneously with the signed limited issue of 375 copies. Peter Harrington, sold item number 150893. Octavo. Original white cloth, spine lettered in bronze, author's initials blind-stamped on front cover, buff endpapers. With dust jacket by Barclay Shaw. Light foxing to edges of cloth and leaves, contents clean; bright, unclipped jacket with gentle vertical creases on rear panel: a near-fine copy in like jacket.

Gibson, William. Neuromancer [Signed, Numbered]. Phantasia Press, West Bloomfield, MI, 1986.

Price: US$5400.00 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: The first US hardbound edition of William Gibson's debut novel, a cyberpunk classic that won both the Nebula and Hugo awards as a paperback original in 1984. This edition includes a new, two-page introduction by the author that was published for the first time here. The UK edition, published by Gollancz, was the first hardcover edition, and it has become one of the most sought-after SF titles of the 1980s. This very attractive edition from Phantasia Press (IMHO, they put out the nicest limited editions of the era), is bound in undyed cloth, with metallic paper endpapers, and a dust jacket with wrap-around art by Barclay Shaw stamped in bronze metallic ink. There were just 375 numbered copies signed by William Gibson on a sheet tipped-in at the back of the book (plus a trade issue of 1200 unsigned hardcovers). For a limited edition of such a key book, that's a relatively small number of copies. First US hardcover edition (first printing). A fine copy in a fine dust jacket and slipcase. The slipcase, bound in the same light-colored cloth as the book, is still fresh and clean. A beautiful copy. This is number 40 of 375 signed copies.

The most famous and enduring cyberpunk novel, Neuromancer immediately defined the then-fledgling cyberpunk genre. It was originally published as an Ace paperback in 1984, followed later that year by the first hardback edition, issued in London. Such is the attractiveness of this Phantasia edition that Gibson called it the "Deluxe Neuromancer" in an inscribed copy of the trade issue we have handled. Peter Harrington, sold item number 150893.
