Description: One of 475 copies printed for the Members of the Bibliophile Society. 3 vols. 4to. Presentation copy of WK Bixby. This copy of the limited edition of 475 bears a presentation inscription on the front free endpaper: Miss Anne Woodin with best wishes of Mr & Mrs W.K. Bixby, Nov. 1920. These notebooks had originally been given to Richard Garnett by Sir Percy and Lady Shelley in recognition for his long devoted service in assisting to sort out all the Shelley papers and manuscripts, and then made their way into the possession of William Keeney Bixby. W K Bixby was born in 1857 and was a passionate collector of autographs, manuscripts, rare books, and art. His work with the Union Pacific Railroad and American Car & Foundry Company allowed him to retire at the age of 48 and devote the rest of his life to travel and literature. These volumes contain the first printing of the stanza from "Love's Philosophy" that Shelley did not present to Miss Sophia Stacy when he gave her the rest. Granniss 91 Original parchment-backed gray boards. Fine, fresh copy One of 475 copies printed for the Members of the Bibliophile Society.
