This edition is reprinted by Quinn & Boden Company at Rahwey, NJ for Harcourt Brace & Co. Signed by Rockwell Kent on front end paper. Signature looks as though someone may have tried to erase it. Still clear, except for the K. A great bargain.

Description: Reprint edition WITH TIPPED-IN TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR ROCKWELL KENT. xii, 281, [2] pages. Hardcover: H 21.75cm x L 15.75cm. Lacks dust jacket. Off-white cloth with light aquamarine lettering/decoration to front board and spine but with latter's slightly faded; some toning and soiling to cloth with rear board having light staining at top right. Muted brown top edge. Some toning to endpapers with faint toning at margins of interior leaves; early leaves have mild bumping/creasing at bottom fore-edge corners with a few nicks at bottom edges. Binding is firm. Tipped-in at front free endpaper is a folded typed response letter on Rockwell Kent's personal stationery (with his logo at top of page and Au Sable Forks, NY at bottom) dated December 11, 1930 thanking a Delaware, Ohio resident for her correspondence of a few days prior with Kent's cursive black ink signature in his usual compact handwriting. A very good- copy. Random House published a limited edition the same year with the trade edition released by Brewer & Warren.

The binding while intact is loose and there is some sunning to the cover. There is some soiling or smudging of ink other than the signature’s ink around the signature. Priced accordingly.

Description: Fine in decorated light blue cloth covered boards with a silver colored stamping of a compass rose on the front board and text and decorations stamped on the spine. This binding is absolutely unblemished! In its original plain blue dust jacket in very good condition with tanning to the spine area and a few closed tears all of which have been repaired with archival tape on the verso side of the jacket. Both the book and its dust jacket are contained within the original, very good+ dark blue, paper covered slip case which shows minor wear at its opening and one chip from the paper covering of 3/4" by 1/2". As noted on the rear page of text this copy has been numbered 572 out of only 900 copies printed. It is also signed on that page by the author. With extensive wood block illustrations by the author. The paper employed in the text is a special watermarked paper by Pynson Printers and completed in the month of November, 1930. A beautiful, tight, clean copy with no prior ownership markings of any kind.

Kittredge commissioned Kent to design and illustrate the iconic three-volume aluminum slip-cased 1930 Lakeside Press edition of Moby Dick, which was hailed as a triumph of Machine Age book design. Kittredge's bookplate (rather well designed, of course) on front paste down, and his business card laid in, chipped at one corner. First edition. Number 560 of a limited 900 copies signed by Kent at rear. Bound in publisher's light blue cloth with elaborate silver stamping to front cover and spine, in blue paper covered slip case with matching limitation number on title label on spine. Near Fine with light fading to spine and light general wear to slipcase.
