Description: 1st edition, 1st printing hardback in unclipped jacket. Signed by author on the title page. Jacket with blue of spine very slightly faded, and slight loss at top right tip. Book has small nick at top right of front endpaper, slight wear at tips and some offsetting from the printing on the inside flaps. Previous owner's name neatly written at the top of the front pastedown. Occasional browning to page edges Original rough cut pages from American sheets. Not a book club edition, ex library or a remainder. I am happy to supply scans.

The dustwrapper is in VG condition with creasing at the head and tail of the spine and to the front flap which is NOT price clipped. The spine of the dustwrapper is partially faded - as is customarily seen with this title. This is a pretty nice copy of a rare book, especially double-signed. The book comes complete with the rare WRAP-AROUND BAND (partially sunned to the spine portion) announcing the book to be the Winner of the 1981 £10,000 Booker McConnell Prize for Fiction. Winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for the same year. Awarded the "Booker of Booker's" Prize in 1993, and in 2008 voted the "Best of the Booker's" for most outstanding novel published in the last 40 years. Additionally includes a heart felt inscription by the film director, Deepa Mehta, on the verso of the half title page: "In Lieu of Salmon (My Hero!) I so enjoyed making this into a movie. Love, Deepa Mehta". Deepa Mehta directed the film adaptation of the novel in 2012 with a screenplay by Rushdie.
