Description: This is a review copy, with publisher's publicity sheet folded and laid in. It is from the library of African Amrican poet, playwright and novelist Owen Vincent Dodson, whose signature is on the front pastedown. The book is near fine except for light wear to head and foot of spine. The Dj is unclipped, the spine is sunned and there is wear to the edges with a large abrasion and scuffinfg to the front and a few small tears. This early novel by Wright depicts what life is like in Mississippi for Fishbelly, an intelligent, sensitive and well-to-do Black boy. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Signed by Associated First Edition; Early Printing, Review Copy.

Description: First edition. Rubbing at the extremities of the boards and a couple of light smudges or faint stains in the text, else near fine in a nice, near fine dust jacket with a little nominal rubbing at the extremities. Housed in a custom red quarter morocco and marbled paper covered clamshell case. The Dedication Copy (one of two possible) Inscribed by the author using the whole front fly: "To Paul Reynolds, who has been my friend and agent for twenty years and whose faith and sense of security in life were strong enough to make him unafraid of my wanderings and seeking after answers - Sincerely Dick Wright. Oct. 26, 1958. Paris." The printed dedication reads: "To my friends Edward C. Aswell and Paul R. Reynolds whose aid and counsel made this book possible." Reynolds' small book label is laid into the book. A very nice copy of a novel of Black life in the deep South, successful in France but largely ignored upon publication in America.
