Description: This is a Very Good Copy of this Book in Publisher's original brown buckram cloth with gilt title lettering to spine. There is some light sunning to the colour tone along the spine. There is a lovely 2 sided letter from David Garnett tipped down onto the front endpaper. The letter appears to discuss some odd mistakes that occurred within the text of the book. It's likely that the letter was written in either 1942 or 1943 on New Oxford Street Letter headed paperand signed by David Garnett. The book has a firm binding with NO hinge weakness,no leaning to spine.Illustrated with 4 folding maps and with 16 b&w plates. The contents internally remain in nice order with no foxing.Thick and Heavy and a comprehensive work by Garnett and uncommon with the added attraction of an Author signed letter tipped in.Large 8vo 896pp First UK Edition 2nd Impression published in the same month as the First Issue [1938]
