Description: Later edition, inscribed by the author on the title page: "My cat and I very much enjoyed your letter. and it was a pleasure to autograph the copy of Horton for you". The title page carries several annotations by Seuss, pointing to himself as the author and identifying both Horton and a Who in the illustrations. The book marks the second appearance of Horton, following Horton Hatches the Egg (1940), and the first appearance of the Whos, who later feature in How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1957). It was adapted into an animated film in 2008, starring Jim Carrey as the voice of Horton. Quarto. Original colour pictorial boards and endpapers. Colour illustrations throughout by the author. Light bumping and wear, faint sunning to spine, internally fresh: a very good copy.

Tipped to blank leaf facing the title page, a unique frontispiece, are a pair of fine, matching heavy stock 5" X 3" cards. Hans Conried signs the card at top beautifully in blue fineline, dating it 1 May 1968 at upper right, and below this June Foray signs the other card in black fineline, dating it 13 August 1989 at upper right. Laid in are the ideal bookmarks: Conried and Foray's original signature transmittal envelopes. YOUNGER & HIRSCH.
