Publishing sequence: 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1. October 2000. First American edition. The US book was published a couple of months before the UK edition. Boards decorated with a scene from the book in a wraparound illustration. The DJ is gold with a hole in the front cover allowing a view of the boards below. Small fold to corner of the front flap of the dj reduces the grade to Near fine for the DJ. Whilst Pullman has won the Carnegie Medal, the Guardian Children's Fiction Award, the Smarties Prize and Children's Book of the Year at the British Book Awards it was only the final instalment of the His Dark Materi als trilogy that seems to have garnered him the popular acclaim he undoubtedly deserves, also pleasing the critics as it won the Whitbred Book of the Year Prize - the first Children's book to do so. The trilogy has since been voted one of the top five books ever, by the British public in a national poll.
