There is a small bookplate in the rear. The pages are clean and free of foxing. This book contains all 12 of Nielsen's original tipped in color plates, with none missing, removed, or loose. Several pages and tissue guards are detached, but all pages are present. Several pages have some wear to their edges. This is the Limited edition # 463 of only 600 copies signed by Kay Nielsen. One of Kay Nielsen's rarest works complete with many beautiful illustrations.

Large quarto (11 7/8 x 9 5/8 inches; 301 x 246 mm). [12], 275, [1], [4, blank] pp. Twelve mounted color plates, with descriptive tissue guards. Ten black and white plates (included in pagination). Title and initials letters printed in red and black. Handsomely bound by The Chelsea Bindery (stamp-signed on front turn-in) in full black crushed levant morocco, covers ruled in gilt, front cover with original gilt stamp, spine with five raised bands, bordered and lettered in gilt in compartments, gilt board edges, decorative gilt turn-ins, plum end-papers (original decorative end-papers preserved), top edge gilt, others uncut. A very fine copy. There was no signed limited English edition of this book. "In an attempt to reinvigorate the market for gift books after the war, Hodder & Stoughton resumed the publishing of Kay Nielsen's books, though on a more modest scale. In 1924 they published a work that Nielsen had begun in 1912, Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales, including sixteen stories illustrated with twelve watercolors. Nielsen returned to London, and in 1925 his final book for Hodder & Stoughton, Hansel and Gretel, appeared with twelve color plates" (Susan E.
