Description: FIRST EDITION 1909, large paper edition de luxe limited to 750 copies SIGNED BY THE ARTIST, this being No. 216. 4to, 295 x 215 mm, 11½ x 8½ inches, white buckram, gilt lettered and decorated on upper cover and spine, gilt illustrated marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, others uncut, red silk ties, 291 pages. 13 splendid mounted colour plates, frontispiece with tissue guard, 2 full page black and white illustrations, 4 chapter headings and 27 tailpieces, a couple repeated. Spine not darkened, silk ties a bit faded, small neat old bookplate on front pastedown (see image), tissue guard to frontispiece slightly foxed. Contents very nice. A near Fine excellent copy. There is an extra coloured plate in this edition not in the trade edition, it is the last plate in the book page 256, 'The Yahoos' as stated on the publisher's tipped-in printed Notice which is still present. Riall mistakenly states that the extra plate is 'The Lilliputian tailors.' on page 65 and that the plates have tissue guards but there is a tissue guard only to the frontispiece in the Limited Edition. Bound in off white buckrum with some marks and slight damp staining on the back around the faded & worn red ties, one tie has broken and is laid in, some marks on the front board spine browned, gilt titles on spine and front board with gilt cartouche, decorated end papers, damp stained with gift inscription An armorial book plate on rear of front ep, rear decorated eps also damp stained Rackham book plate in the front and back both filled with a name. A bound in note states that the plate facing page 256 THE YAHOOS ony appears in this large paper edition of 750 copies and is not in any edition. 13 wonderful illustrations in tis large paper edition Gilt top edge, rough cut or yapped page edges as called for, all that said the book is very clean and tight inside with no faults , the book does still look good on the outside as well

Description: FIRST RACKHAM EDITION. 4to. (11.5 x 8.8 inches). LIMITED EDITION, SIGNED BY RACKHAM. One of only 750 numbered copies. Beautifully illustrated with 13 mounted colour plates, the frontis with a tissue guard, two full page black and white plates, and 31 line drawings as chapter headings and tail pieces. Publishers white cloth with gilt lettering and illustration to front board. Spine lettered in gilt. Two sets of rose coloured silk ties, still present. Top edge gilt, the others untrimmed. Decorative endpapers, printed on vellum style paper with a blue tint, with gold ink. Red silk book marker. A very small bump to the top outer corner of the front board otherwise a fine and bright copy. Uncommon in such nice condition. --- This deluxe edition includes one extra colour plate, an image of the Yahoos, that wasn't included in the regular trade edition. --- Riall.
