RUSHDIE, Salman. Grimus. The Overlook Press, New York, 1979.

Price: US$220.00 + shipping

Description: First US Edition, First Printing. Signed by the author on title page. Black cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Publisher's logo embossed on front board. Illustrated dust jacket, unclipped. Trace wear to corners. A bit of dust soiling and toning to text block edges, with a small stain on fore edge. Black marker line flush with spine to bottom edge of text block, likely a remainder mark, although one of the most discreet we have encountered. Internally clean and bright. Dust jacket with a few smoothed out creases to bottom corner of front panel and about a ¾ in. closed tear along the bottom of the front turn. Faint toning to flaps. Near Fine in a Better than Very Good dust jacket. As Rushdie's first published novel, Grimus was intended to be a work of fantasy, folktale, and science fiction, although some early critics argued that there is very little actual science fiction. The Los Angeles Times disagreed, writing "Grimus is one of those novels some people will say is too good to be science fiction, even though it contains other universes, dimensional doorways, alien creatures, and more than one madman. Grimus is science fiction in the best sense of the word. It is literate, it is fun, it is meaningful, and perhaps most important, it pushes the boundaries of the form outward.".
