Half black cloth over blue paper covered boards, titles stamped in silver on the spine, illustration in blind on the cover: board edges a bit sunned, as usual, light soiling to top and fore edge, as well as front free endpaper and rear pastedown; binding tight. In the three color illustrated coated dust jacket with price $5.95 intact on the front flap, print date 6/72: edges minimally rubbed, light age-toning along the perimeter, old crease to front flap, now mellowed, light scuffs. Thompson's great "failed experiment" in Gonzo journalism with Steadman's aptly grotesque drawings, in part an assessment of hippie and American culture. First published in Rolling Stone in November 1971, this first book edition appeared in July 1972.A presentable copy with dust jacket is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
