Description: Empire of the Sun, by English writer J G Ballard was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize Like Ballard's earlier short story "The Dead Time" (published in the anthology Myths of the Near Future), it is essentially fiction but draws extensively on Ballard's experiences in World War II The name of the novel is derived from the etymology of the name for Japan This is a near fine copy in black cloth with gilt titles to the spine A color drawn portrait card, signed by the author, is affixed to the reverse of the ffep There is some sunning at the top of the text, but otherwise there are no marks or damage at all The unclipped DJ is also near fine, with just slight edge wear 278 pp.
