KNIGHT, Hilary (illus.); THOMPSON, Kay.. Eloise in Paris.. New York: Simon and Schuster, 1957, 1957.

Price: US$1940.42 + shipping

Description: First edition, first printing, inscribed by the illustrator on the verso of the front free endpaper, "For Katharine, from Hilary and ELOISE", with a pen drawing of the titular character underneath. Inscribed copies of the Eloise books do not usually feature original drawings. Unlike the first Eloise book (1955), this sequel features many celebrity appearances in Knight's illustrations, such as Richard Avedon Knight as Eloise's passport photographer and Lena Horne dining at a side-walk cafe. Thompson (1912-1998) did not allow the sequels to the first Eloise book to be reprinted during her lifetime. Tall quarto. Original red boards, titles and pictorial decoration to spine and front board in silver and black, pink illustrated endpapers. With dust jacket. Illustrated throughout in pink, blue, and black. Some light crayon marks to front cover, corners slightly worn, foxing to edges, occasional mark to contents; jacket spine toned, else bright, rear panel faintly soiled with short closed tear, bookseller's price label to front flap, unclipped: a very good copy in like jacket.
