Description: This is a very good hardcover copy in the original clear acetate wrapper, corners slightly bumped. Wrapper has a short repaired tear. SIGNED by the artist, Max Ernst in ink on the dark red front endpaper and briefly inscribed to an American art historian and dated Paris, 1970. The art historian who participated in the production of several works on Max Ernst, subsequently inscribed the book and gifted it to a friend of his in the 1980's.Otherwise completely clean. Text in FRENCH. Illustrated in black & white. 9" high X 7" wide, 448 pages. Heavy book, foreign shipping will be extra. A presentation copy, inscribed by the author in green ink on the half title 'pour Mary McCarthy Max Ernst', with a characteristic figure drawing between the two names. McCarthy famously caricatured Ernst's former wife Peggy Guggenheim as Miss Grabbe in her short story 'The Cicerone'. Text in French, no dust jacket, a fine copy with the faintest finger marking to the lower edge corner.
