Philip Pullman. Count Karlstein. Chatto & Windus, London, 1982.

Price: US$1438.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: This is a genuine first edition, first printing of Pullman's first novel for children. "Published by" on copyright page has no mention of being a later edition -- thus meeting the requirement for identification of this 1982 publication. There are two stamps in the book: the first, on the first end-paper, indicates this copy was submitted to the US Library of Congress but was listed as a "surplus duplicate". The second stamp is to the half title page identifying the shop where it was subsequently sold in South Carolina, USA. There are traces of usage within the pages, most notably very small stains on pages 4,51 and 85. There's a manufacturing fault to rear paste-down -- a crimp at bottom. Light foxing to edges of page block. Boards are in great shape with nice sharp corners and no edge wear. The dust jacket is bright and sharp edged with only traces of shelf wear. Appears new at first look. There is very light foxing to jacket's entirety as seen on underside. The flaps, too, have some foxing. Despite these flaws, this is a good looking book and a genuine first printing of a very scarce title! A SIGNED title page is laid into the book.
