Bevelled edges, gilt upper text edge. Frontis plates in both volumes, full-pg plates throughout. Condition is VERY GOOD ; lacks the original and usually damaged slipcase. Vol. 2 has a mild central ripple to the pages, and some mild foxing to the margins of the plates, also a water spot on the lower corner on about half the pgs (see photo). Description: Signed limited edition, number 194 of 750 copies signed by the artist. The publishers also issued a single volume trade edition of this work. Kent's full-page illustrations have, "like the Moby Dick images, shaped at least two generations' understanding of the characters portrayed" (Stanley, p. 48). In his autobiography, Rockwell Kent noted Shakespeare as his "favourite author", before noting "a few others" too (Kent, p. 599). Rockwell Kent, It's Me O Lord, 1955; Eliot H. Stanley, Rediscovering Rockwell Kent, 1997. Two volumes, quarto. Original blue cloth, spines lettered in gilt on vellum labels, front covers with designs in blind, top edges gilt. With 2 colour frontispieces, 38 full-page plates, black and white illustrations in the text, all by Kent. Some light abrasions to binding, some wear to vellum labels, minor browning to endpapers, lacking slipcase: a very good set.

Description: The Cambridge Edition is limited to seven hundred and fifty numbered copies, signed by the illustrator Rockwell Kent. Bound in publisher's original full blue cloth with the title stamped in gilt on the spine, top edge gilt, fore edge uncut. This set was originally issued in a single slipcase for both volumes and was extremely heavy. We had two new blue cloth slipcases lined with paper made to make it more manageable. The original vellum labels stamped in gilt were difficult to read from any distance so we had substituted two new red leather labels stamped in gilt which matched some of the coloring on the title page.
