Description: Complete two volume set. Number 233 of a limited edition of 350 copies printed on handmade paper. Signed by Walter de la Mare to limitation page. Quarter beige cloth with grey paper covered boards. Leather title label to spines, top page edges gilt, other edges untrimmed. Slight browning to spines, rubbing to title labels, small torn section to front board of volume I. Light foxing to endpapers and page edges. Very clean text throughout. Provenance: Engraved bookplate to front pastedown endpaper in both volumes - Pamela Mary Violet Goddard, daughter of Rayner Goddard, Baron Goddard. Inscribed by Rayner Goddard to front free endpaper in Volume I: 'Pamela from Dad on her thirtieth birthday 28/12/37'. Lord Goddard was Lord Chief Justice of England from 1946 to 1958. A controversial figure, considered one of the last hanging judges (most notoriously in the Derek Bentley 'Let him have it' trial). The bookplate in Volume I is tipped in above another bookplate for M. McK (McKechnie). An attractive set, signed by the author and with interesting provenance. Overall condition is Very Good.
