Price: US$969.13 + shipping

Description: First edition, sixth printing, presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the title page to a fellow Beat publisher, "To Mike Horovitz, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, London, May 1963". A champion of experimental poetry in Britain, Michael Horovitz (1935-2021) founded the magazine New Depatures in 1959, which published work by Burroughs, Ginsberg, and several British Beat poets. Ferlinghetti and Horovitz met in the 1960s, and Ferlinghetti appeared, with Burroughs and Ginsberg, at Horovitz's International Poetry Incarnation at the Royal Albert Hall in 1965. Square octavo. Original black and yellow wrappers, wire-stitched as issued. Wrappers slightly rubbed, a few pages folded, a very good copy.

FERLINGHETTI, Lawrence (ed.).. City Lights Journal.. San Francisco: City Lights Books, 1963-78, 1963.

Price: US$1938.26 + shipping

Description: The full run of City Lights Journal, each issue signed by the editor on the title page, "Number One" additionally signed by contributors Jack Hirschman, Gary Snyder, and Harold Norse; "Number Four" by Hirschman, Neeli Cherkovski, and A.D. Winans. Although the short-lived journal struggled to stick to its annual schedule (the final issue was published 15 years after the first) it remains a testament to Ferlinghetti's influence: the first issue includes contributions from the entire Beat pantheon, including Ginsberg, Burroughs, Kerouac, Ed Sanders, and Neal Cassady. Four volumes, octavo. Original black and white photographic wrappers lettered in black and white. Housed in a custom black cloth slipcase. Wrappers rubbed and lightly toned with a few marks, spines and lower corners slightly creased, foxing to some edges and endpapers, No. 1 with tiny chip at head of spine, No. 2 with stain on spine extending slightly to rear wrapper and lower corners of a few leaves, not affecting text, No. 3 spine ends slightly bumped, No. 4 with joints split at head but firm. A very good set.
