Description: It was the Harper Prize Novel of 1939-40, and is considered by many to be the best novel on Mormon themes. Stated first edition, brown book w/gilt letters, yellow spine is clean and tight w/lightly bumped bottom corners. It is signed w/inscription on the dedication page by J. H. Gipson of Caxton's, to whom the book is dedicated. The dj spine is lightened, 1/4" strip missing at head of spine, chips to ends of dj spine and corners. Mylar protected. Pictorial end papers, original price showing on unclipped dust jacket.

Description: 769 pages. Yellow and brown hardcover binding is moderately darkened on the spine, with minimal shelfwear. No dustjacket. Signed by the author on a front endpaper with no further inscription. Previous owner's stamp on the dedication page. A few pages with minor thumbing creases, and a few tiny spots of staining to the closed page edges, but the text is quite clean and is unmarked. The endpapers are map-illustrated. An early, dated "K-O" meaning October of 1939, but also stated "Seventeenth Edition." Size: Octavo (8vo)
