Description: 4to. [1-6] 7-43 + 44 plates. Limited edition of 1030 copies, this is number 651. Signed by Arthur Rackham on limitation page in bold brown ink and hand-numbered. Off-white cloth, rebacked with original spine laid on. Top edge gilt, deckle fore and bottom edge. Gilt titling and top edge somewhat faded. Soiling to cloth, heavier at spine. Dampstain to lower edge front board does not affect interior. Tipped-in plates all present, with tissue guards in tact. Some foxing scattered throughout, not affecting plates. Introduction by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch.

Description: First edition, first impression, deluxe issue, number 101 of 1,030 copies signed by the illustrator. This is a finely printed selection of colour drawings by Rackham, a few of which had previously appeared in magazines in black and white, but for the most part previously unpublished. "Most of them are drawings of the supernatural, of goblins, elves and fairies, and many are based on actual fairy tales; but there are also delightful straightforward drawings of children at the seaside or in the Broad Walk, Kensington Gardens; there is the well-known 'Cupid's Alley' (see page 59), which illustrates verses by Austin Dobson, and there are subject pictures and landscapes of wide variety" (Hudson, p. 96-8). Near-contemporary blue morocco by Bayntun (Rivière), spine with raised bands, compartments lettered and richly tooled in gilt, gilt frames on covers, elaborate gilt decoration on edges and turn ins, marbled endpapers, edges gilt. With 44 numbered colour plates, including frontispiece, each mounted on thick brown paper and with captioned tissue guard. Spine faded, faint foxing to margins of text leaves and tissue guards, plates unaffected and vibrant. A very good copy.
