A nice copy with shelf wear appropriate to its age. xxix 323pp; viii 476pp. Quatro. Three-quarter brown morocco binding with marbled-paper sides, title and author name in gilt on spine with five raised bands, top edge gilt, deckled fore and bottom edge. Marbled endpapers. With 55 illustrations by Frederic Remington, Frost, Beard, Gifford, Sanford and other well-known artists. Interior pages with no signs of foxing. Front cover faded at spine, back cover rubbed. Chipped corners, wear at top and fore edge. A simple turn-of-the-century printed calling card of Mrs. William Ladd is affixed to the first plain endpaper with the small hand-written note on card: With Christmas Greeting to my friend Cross, 1899. Very Good condition. Strong hinges. NO cracks. Square and tight -- unusual for this very heavy book (almost 7 pounds). The cover is lightly soiled with mild rubbing and fraying at the extremities.
