Signed presentation from the author on the half title page, "To William Lang, from G. Bernard Shaw." William Lang (1852Ð1937) was a senior ophthalmologist, and enthusiast for and collector of Arts and Crafts furniture, silverware and books. He lived in Chiswick as a young adult, and ministered professionally to members of the West London socialist and literary set. He was on dining terms with William Morris and W.B. Yeats and Shaw also consulted him professionally.In his introduction to Plays Pleasant and Unpleasant haw enjoyed the paradox of LangÕs diagnosis of his vision as ÒnormalÓ: Lang had explained that only about 10% of people have this, which Shaw jumped on as proof that it was the others who were wrong ÒMy mindÕs eye, like my bodyÕs was ÒnormalÓ it saw things differently from other peopleÕs eyes, and saw them better. slight fading and tanning to covers with inner hinge slightly tender, otherwise close very good. Bookplate on the front endpaper of M. Bernard Thorold, a well known book collector of P. R. B. book and private press.
