Published to coincide with the exhibition "Richard Avedon: Evidence 1944-1994" at the Whitney Museum of American Art, 24 March - 26 June, 1994. Avedon's photographic autobiography ranges from his earliest private pictures to the snapshots of stars that made his name. His "fashion and portrait photographs helped define America's image of style, beauty, and culture for the last half-century" (New York Times obituary). It has been reported that only about 100 copies of this edition was published. Two vols. quarto. Original beige cloth, lettering to front covers in red and blue. Housed in a beige cloth clamshell box, lettering to front cover blindstamped. With 284 full page photographic illustrations throughout. All in fine condition.
