Handwritten, signed and dated note by Joseph Conrad enclosed with the book: "Dear Sir, your frankness deserves something better than an empty envelope in reply. Best wishes of the season. Joseph Conrad, 15. Dec. 1923". First edition of Conrad's first novel, as indicated by the omission of a full stop at the headline of page 43, and the omission of the letter "e" in "generosity" and the word "of" at the last two lines of page 110.
