Description: 209p. Signed and inscribed by Walter Lord on front endpaper. 2nd Printing. Text is otherwise unmarked with a slight patina and a few b/w photos. Binding is tight, hinges are split but remain fully attached. Blue boards with yellow spine are moderately soiled on surfaces with pointed corners. Jacket is unclipped with original price of $3.50 present, but is heavily tattered on edges and spine with lots of duct taped extremities. Contains a pleasant aged book smell.

Description: Octavo, 209 pages. In Very Good condition with a Very Good dust jacket. Spine pictorial black with white and yellow lettering. Dust jacket protected with a mylar covering, price clipped front flap. Extremely mild wear exteriorly including light age toning and very light foxing to the flaps. Small red dot sticker to the lower spine. Boards has small stain, one to lower front and one to lower rear. Text block has slight age toning to the edges with very slight foxing to the end papers. Pictorial end papers. Light offsetting to the end papers. Slight scratches to rear end paper and rear pastedown to lower edge. Illustrated with photographs. First edition. Signed by the author. Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt Bindery, illustrated, gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. In fine condition. An exceptional presentation. A Night to Remember is a work by Walter Lord that depicts the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912. The book was hugely successful, and is still considered a definitive resource about the Titanic. Lord interviewed 63 survivors of the disaster as well as drawing on books, memoirs, and articles that they had written.

Red ink writing to Christmas card laid in which states: Bob - Hope to see you soon - Lots more Titanic ___ to be done! -Walter". top of front endpaper also has Robert's name and a different address (12 Sherbrooke RD, Hartdale, N.Y.) dated 11-10-55. colored photograph of the Titanic pasted to half title page. Inscription on title page by the author that states "For Robert Forrest - With thanks for a very different and far happier "Night to Remember." -Walter Lord 1/11/77. pages are clean. black and white photographic illustrations. THE GENTLEMAN I PURCHASED THIS BOOK FROM STATED ROBERT FORREST WAS AN INTIMATE FRIEND OF WALTER'S. WALTER NEVER MARRIED. And, from looking online at other references to Walter Lord and Robert Forrest, an item on Worthpoint (I'm attaching a screen shot) includes this: "[Lord and Forrest] were Titanic enthusiasts and collectors, who contributed to various publications concerning the ill-fated ship." Walter Lord's papers relating to the Titanic in the Lord-MacQuitty Collection at the Royal Museums Greenwich: Walter Lord bequeathed his collection to the National Maritime Museum in 2002, encouraged by his close friend William Macquitty, the producer of 'A Night to Remember'. The collection also includes items previously owned by William Macquitty. William MacQuitty (15 May 1905 5 February 2004) was born in Belfast. He was six when he watched the launch of the TITANIC on 30 May 1911, and saw her set sail on her fateful maiden voyage a year later. During the Second World War he worked in film production for the Ministry of Information but it was only in the 1950s that his interest in the TITANIC was rekindled. His wife had been reading Lords 'A Night to Remember' and he realised that this was the film he had been waiting for. He took an option on the film rights, met Walter Lord, and together they developed a screenplay based on the book. MacQuitty then produced the film, also called 'A Night to Remember' (directed by Roy Ward Baker) and following its success won a contract for the Independent Television Authoritys franchise for Ulster.
