He was the recipient of four Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry, the Congressional Gold Medal, and was named the poet laureate of Vermont in 1961. He won Pulitzer Prizes for the following works: New Hampshire: A Poem With Notes and Grace Notes, Collected Poems, A Further Range and A Witness Tree.

A Masque of Mercy is a blank-verse dramatic narrative that, along with A Masque of Reason (1945), probe whether man's best efforts would be good enough in God's sight. Description: First Edition and a FINE ASSOCIATION COPY INSCRIBED BY ROBERT FROST, dated 1950. 8vo, publishers original light blue cloth lettered in gilt on the spine. In the original dustjacket. [6], 23, [1 blank] pp. A very fresh and well preserved copy, the blue cloth excellent but for trivial rubbing at the extremities, quite handsome with only some expected age mellowing and a small chip at tip of the lightly faded jacket spine panel. A few unobtrusive spots on three early leaves likely caused by something once laid in. FIRST EDITION AND A FINE AND PLEASING SIGNED ASSOCIATION COPY, inscribed by Frost to Virginia Proctor, secretary to Harvard President James Byrant Conant. Though Frost tenure at Harvard was short, his friendship with Mrs. Proctor lasted well beyond his years in Cambridge. It was President Conant who first cited Frost as "The Poet of New England" when Frost was given an honorary degree of Litt.D. in 1937. In 1938 Frost resigned from Amherst and was elected to Harvard's Board of Overseers and that year also saw him placed in the English department at the university. Conant reappointed Frost for the years 1939 through 1942. Though Frost's formal ties with Harvard would end in that year, his association with Virginia Proctor would continue for years following. The inscription on this 1947 publication reads, "To Virginia / From R. F. Frost / 1950" This is the FIRST EDITION of Robert Frosts experiment in blank verse play in which Biblical characters in modern settings discuss ethics and mans relation to God.
