Description: FIRST EDITION, pp. [viii], 307, crown 8vo, original blue cloth, lettered in gilt to backstrip and in blind to upper board within a gilt border and ground, a couple of spots of discolouration to rear, small bookseller ticket to rear pastedown, contemporary ownership inscription to flyleaf, very good. A novel of wartime London, in which a couple (based, of course, on the authors) tell one another stories during blackouts - these set in various historical periods, but all with some bearing on the present conflict; their last collaboration. This variant binding is recorded by Harvey, though in the copy seen by the bibliographer the ads at rear have been excised - there is no sign of them having ever been present in this copy. (Harvey A49)
