Wouk, Herman. Youngblood Hawke [BCE]. Doubleday & Company, 1962.

Price: US$10.00 + shipping

Condition: Good

Description: Doubleday & Company; Garden City, New York; 1962. Hard Cover. Book condition: Good. Dust jacket condition: Poor. Unstated edition, indeterminate printing due to absence of any number line. Hardcover in unclipped dust jacket. 9-1/2" tall, 783 numbered pages. This Book-of-the-Month Club book is in good and decent condition: the exterior is square, free of corner bumps and edge dings but with slight wear at each of the four corners; bottom edges have very little wear; very lightly bumped but otherwise undamaged spine ends; hinges are strong and not damaged in any fashion. But the bottom 3 inches of both boards and the bottom inch of the spine have discoloration from water damage, and bits of the jacket are stuck to the binding. But note: the binding is merely discolored and there is no water damage whatever between the boards--end pages and the entire text block are free of water damage. The damage is cosmetic rather than structural. Except for an inked name/date/city on the half title page, the interior is perfectly clean and completely free of writing, stray marks, stains and any sort of paper damage. Not remaindered or ex-library but definitely a Book Club edition. The dust jacket is in poor condition. The spine is faded from a vivid orange to a very pale peach; the bottom 3 inches have water damage with some waviness in the rear panel; there is a 1-1/2" x 3" chunk missing form the bottom of the front panel with a 3-1/2" tear from that chunk into the spine; a 7" tear on the rear gutter; chipping along the bottom edge; a strip of scotch tape on both front and rear panels. And if that wasn't enough, the jacket has masking tape on its back side--along both top and bottom edges, along both folds and along the entire spine. That tape has not affected the binding but it has made the jacket more fragile and the tape cannot be removed without destroying the jacket. The jacket is now in a mylar cover. As bad as it sounds, this is a fantastically sound reading copy.
