Paste down end-papers show remains (shadow) of tape where jacket was previously attached. No other markings on end-papers or anywhere to interior. A clean, tight fabulous copy of this awesome work. Illustrated with 75 b/w photographs throughout by famed Margaret Bourke-White (with notes on the cameras and lenses used). Dust jacket has original price on front flap. Remains of tape to flap edges; Edge creased and chipped overall. Several closed tears. Top edge of jacket is lacking a 'chunk', impacting title. See photo. Still a wonderful jacket. 190 pages. Mylar protected jacket.

Extraordinary collaboration and photo-documentation of the famous photographer Bourke-White and southern author Caldwell. Text and the collection of striking b/w photographs depict the rural American South and its troubles. A disclaimer at the front of the book reveals that legends and captions under the photographs "are intended to express the authors' own conception of the sentiments of the individuals portrayed; they do not pretend to reproduce the actual sentiments of these persons." Binding rubbed with light wear along edges, faint fraying at head and tail of spine. Book block with normal age-toning. Binding and interior in overall good+ condition.
