Description: Oversized hardcover in grey cloth stamped in red. 190 pp. Illustrated with full page photographs by Maraget Bourke-White. The second edition (first issued by Viking in 1937). A tight example, modest toning along the edge of the boards and a bit of light spotting. No jacket. Iconic work on the Depresion-era rural American South with text by Caldwell and illustrated with Bourke-White's classic black and white photography.

Description: A Very Good volume with just barely worn corner tips; head and foot are just starting to fray. Spine Crown fabric sunned approx. 1". Paste down end-papers show remains (shadow) of tape where jacket was previously attached. No other markings on end-papers or anywhere to interior. A clean, tight fabulous copy of this awesome work. Illustrated with 75 b/w photographs throughout by famed Margaret Bourke-White (with notes on the cameras and lenses used). Dust jacket has original price on front flap. Remains of tape to flap edges; Edge creased and chipped overall. Several closed tears. Top edge of jacket is lacking a 'chunk', impacting title. See photo. Still a wonderful jacket. 190 pages. Mylar protected jacket.

Description: Large Quarto. 190pp. Original gray cloth with stenciled gray lettering in red strip of cover and spine. Tan endpapers. Extraordinary collaboration and photo-documentation of the famous photographer Bourke-White and southern author Caldwell. Text and the collection of striking b/w photographs depict the rural American South and its troubles. A disclaimer at the front of the book reveals that legends and captions under the photographs "are intended to express the authors' own conception of the sentiments of the individuals portrayed; they do not pretend to reproduce the actual sentiments of these persons." Binding rubbed with light wear along edges, faint fraying at head and tail of spine. Book block with normal age-toning. Binding and interior in overall good+ condition.

In a Near Fine dust jacket with light edge wear, foxing to edge of front flap and publisher's price penciled-through, toning to blank verso. A lovely example, scarce in the dust jacket. A husband and wife collaboration documenting the depression-era South.
