Price: US$160.41 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: A first impression of the true first edition, published in November 1988. Wraparound colour jacket illustration by Josh Kirby. The sixth in the Discworld series of novels. ***Near fine in emerald green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to the spine. The boards are clean with just a very light stain at the top edge of the back board. The head of the spine is creased. Corners sharp. Page block edges nice and clean, without the usual foxing. There is a very slight reading lean to the binding. Internally also near fine with no inscriptions. The paper stock is hardly tanned at all - much less than is usually found. ***In a near fine wraparound colour-illustrated dustwrapper, which has not been price-clipped, but which has a publisher's £10.95 net printed label on the flap. Unusually, there is no barcode or ISBN on the back panel of the dustwrapper - this indicates that the dustwrapper was unpriced and intended for book club editions, but used by the publisher for the true first edition instead. The dustwrapper is virtually faultless - clean and bright - just very slight creasing at the head of the spine. Very light staining to the top edge of the inside of the back panel - not visible on the outside. No creases, chips or tears. No fading, even to the spine. ***225mm x145mm. 251 pages. ***'"Wyrd Sisters" is Terry Pratchett's sixth Discworld novel, published in 1988. It re-introduces Granny Weatherwax of Equal Rites. Wyrd Sisters features three witches: Granny Weatherwax; Nanny Ogg, matriarch of a large tribe of Oggs and owner of the most evil cat in the world; and Magrat Garlick, the junior witch, who firmly believes in occult jewelry, covens, and bubbling cauldrons, much to the annoyance of the other two. King Verence I of Lancre is murdered by his cousin, Duke Felmet, after his ambitious wife persuades him to do so. The King's crown and child are given by an escaping servant to the three witches. The witches hand the child to a troupe of travelling actors, and hide the crown in the props-box. They acknowledge that destiny will eventually take its course and that the child, Tomjon, will grow up to defeat Duke Felmet and take his rightful place as king. However, the kingdom is angry about the way the new King is mistreating the land and his subjects. The witches realise that it will be at least 15 years until Tomjon is able to return and save the kingdom, but by then irreparable damage will have been done.' (Wik) ***'A sequence of unalloyed delight'. - Guardian [Review quote taken from the front flap of the dustwrapper] ***A first impression of the true first edition of the sixth book in the Discworld series, in its original colour wraparound dustwrapper (unpriced variant), in very nice condition. Early impressions of "Wyrd Sisters" in collectable condition are hard to come by now, and first impressions are very elusive. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.
