Description: Very Good book lacking the dust jacket. Covers are lightly worn at head and foot of spine and cover corners. Gilt on front cover is dulled and partially rubbed off and is completely absent from the spine titles. Inside, contents are excellent. Binding is tight, pages are clean and unmarked except for former owner's name elegantly inked to first endpaper. No other defects. . IMHO this is one of Tarkington's best books. Jacket is slightly edgeworn, and complete, but has been internally tape reinforced at edges and flap folds. Also has unobtrusive clear tape reinforcement externally at back flap folds and toe of front, Sounds terrible, but it's not so bad. See photos. First edition stated. Canadian edition in jacket is quite uncommon.

Description: This book is hard-bound in green cloth with gilt stamping on the upper cover and spine, in a dust jacket with light soiling toning, wear/closed tears to the edges, and with a single damp-stain spot on the spine. The covers show light toning, and light rubbing to the corners and spine-ends. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and generally clean, but with light foxing to the fore-edge/outer edge of the pages. - From the American First Editions collection of Donald C. Scriven (1948-2019). Don relished points of issue and the primacy of the dust jacket but above all he loved the literature!
