In part a revision of the address given to the Hammersmith Socialist Society in November 1900 and probably preceding the 1901 Doves Press edition of the original talk. In 'The Parting of the Ways' Mackail recommends this version as 'a summarised sketch' of his two-volume Life of Morris, 'published as a penny pamphlet by the Independent Labour Party. To this . . . I would refer any one who desires to make himself familiar with the main outlines of Morris' life and the central doctrines of his belief'.
