CONDITION DESCRIPTION: Near fine with minor rubbing to spine ends and corners. Interior is clean and tight. CONTENTS DESCRIPTION: The author was a life-long hunter, sportsman, and conservationist. His hunting expeditions focused most often on the various species of North American wild sheep. For his Alaskan adventures and explorations he hired the great and famous Harry Karstens. The 1906 expedition took him to the base of Mt. McKinley. In 1907-08, he went to the head of the Toklat River. His experiences drove his later efforts to protect the land as a national park. Although his hunting and exploration parties included others, he preferred to hunt and examine game alone, without the interfering presence of others. His hunting partners included noted naturalists, hunters, and artists, including Cart Rungius. Charles Sheldon is rightly considered the father of Denali National Park; it was his vision and plan that resulted in the passing of federal legislation establishing the park in 1917. This is a great hunting, adventure, and exploration narrative of enduring value and interest.
