This would have belonged to a family member of Henry Williamson's first wife Ida Loetitia Hibbert. The Hibbert's were a wealthy middle class family in Devon. Williamson' met Ida Loetitia at various hunting meets and fell in love. From a large collection of Henry Williamson's and his family's books. Includes a specially commissioned small bookplate affixed inside the book confirming this. Book is very good and re cased retaining the original end papers and spine. Contents good. Green cloth, rebacked with original spine laid down, iv, 192pp; v, 195pp. Richly illustrated with 188 chromolithographic plates; owner name on ff/ endpaper, paper repairs to verso of 2nd plate and pp. 192 [Vol. I]; a paper repair to verso of title, contents, and plate 1 [Volume II]. Light foxing, pencil notations in margins, boards and edges a bit faded o/w a very good copy. Anne Pratt [1806-1893] was an English botanist and ornithologist author, illustrator who composed over 20 works on the subject, and is credited with popularizing its study during the Victorian period.

Bound in rubbed and some worn leather backed cloth with leather label. Leaves some toned but a good set. Anne Pratt (1806-93), a grocer's daughter from Kent and author of Common Things of the Seaside and Our Native Songsters, illustrated all of her botanical books in the spirit of the Victorian Naturalists and successfully merged the study of botany with romantic flower-lore. Wild Flowers is Miss Pratt's first botanical work. In 1855, she produced her The Flowering Plants and Ferns of Great Britain. (Blunt p. 236). A good example of 19th education.
