Gilt illustration of a hunting dog emerging from the brush with a game bird in its mouth. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers. 6" x 8." 373 pages, complete. Many black-and-white illustrations, complete. List of Illustrations in front. Inscribed by the author in black ink on a front flyleaf facing a printed portrait of said author: "To Robert De Paul, At request of my son Hugh William Leffingwell. Hoping that in later years, when duck shooting is but a memory, that this book will bring back the most pleasant [recollections?], William Bruce Leffingwell, Oct., 2nd, 1912." Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning throughout, occasional offsetting, and the small occasional mark. Covers are very clean and intact except for light rubbing, slight wear to extremities, and slight surface chipping along spine. Binding is tight. A Very Good copy. A comprehensive guide about hunting and shooting wildfowl. This book also instructs readers on how to use a shotgun, proper hunting outfit, using a boat while hunting, and how to select and train dogs for game retrieval. Most of the birds described herein appear to be ducks and geese, but there is also discussion on grouse, quail, and other game birds.
