Description: Illustrated with fifty plates of flowers in full color drawn by Isaac Sprague. Bound in original full brick-red cloth. 36 x 28 cm. Plate IX is missing and plate VII appears twice, apparently as issued, otherwise complete with tissue guards. Binding is weak, pages are brittle at edges with tiny chips and minor browning confined to margines, otherwise book is good with bright clean plates.

Description: iv + 210 pp, including index. 50 colored plates, measuring 32 by 24 cm, 12.5 by 9.5 inches. Boston artist, Isaac Sprague (1811-1895) was America's best known botanical painter of his day. Beginning as a carriage painter, he found himself drawn to birds and flora. After working as an assistant to Audobon, he collaborated with botanist Asa Gray for whom he furnished many illustrations. Full thick leather decorated with gilt borders and dentelles or turn ins. Five raised bands. Fabric endpapers. Front joint repaired in upper front. Some rubbing of the joints; otherwise, leather is fresh and attractive. Plates are clean. A few tissue guards are missing.

Description: Complete 2 Volume Set. Original green cloth with gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Gilt top. Minimal library marking--call number on spine and again on copyright page. Former owner's bookplates. Color plates collated and complete, although numbering of plates represents printer's error which causes them to be out of order, though in perfect keeping with text descriptions by Goodale. All plates in Near Fine to Fine condition.
