Condition: Fine

Description: First edition. Introduction by Donald Ogden Stewart. Fine in very near fine dustwrapper but for a small chip on the crown, but with the primarily white jacket bright and fresh. The exceptionally scarce jacket is of interest in its own right as it contains blurbs from Robert Benchley, Edna Ferber, Sidney Howard, Marc Connelly, George Gershwin and several other notables. A fantasy for the stage based on a passage in *Mr. and Mrs. Haddock Abroad*, a humorous book by Barry's friend Donald Ogden Stewart, the expatriate novelist and screenwriter. Barry and Stewart were longtime friends and collaborators. Stewart won an Oscar for his screenplay based on Barry's *Philadelphia Story*, as well as starred in another Barry play, *Holiday*, where he played a character based on himself. According to Brendan Gill: "Stewart received much praise for his skill in depicting himself."
