Howes 8899. F. Monaghan 1289. Howell III 776]. The author was French envoy to USA at Sacremento from1851-1852. "The most comprehensive and reliable contemporary French description of California, including observations on mining, industry, natural history, and the varied population. There is also a long account of the author's journey into the Oregon Territory, similarly detailed and comprehensive" . Largely uncut and unopened, front wrapper detached and binding broken in two places but absolutely complete and could be restored.
