Author's presentation copy, inscribed on the title page to fellow author and spiritualist, Mrs Desmond Humphreys, "With all greetings to a fellow work, Mrs Desmond Humphreys, from Arthur Conan Doyle, Dec 1919". Original black cloth lettered in gilt, in scarce buff printed dustwrapper. A near fine copy in a very good dustwrapper, which shows some wear to the corners with the head of the spine internally reinforced with tape. Four photographic plates. Eliza Margaret (Desmond) Humphreys (1850-1938) was a noted romantic novelist writing under the nom de plume of Rita and, like Conan Doyle, became interested in spiritualism later in life. Her work, The Truth of Spiritualism, was also published in 1919.
