(VISIONAIRE). Gan, Stephen, James Kaliardos & Cecilia Dean, Editors. VISIONAIRE NO. 7: BLACK (FALL 1992) - DISPLAY COPY. Visionaire Publishing, New York, 1992.

Price: US$1100.00 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: Individual sheets laid into a silkscreened, die-cut portfolio, profusely illustrated in monochrome. Designed by Mats Gustafson and Stephen Gan. Published in an edition of one thousand, five hundred copies, this is the seventh installment of everyone's favorite long-running luxe fashion quarterly, Visionaire. "With "Black", Visionaire doubled in size-and also in price. The issue was inspired by the season's all-black Comme des Garcons collection, Edward Gorey's macabre cartoons, and by artist Antoni Tapies. It was about darkness, the night, shadows, and what you may or may not see when you squint your eyes. A traditional artist's portfolio case tied with three black ribbons, provided the concept for the packaging. The die-cut letters were based on tears Stephen had made with scrap paper that enabled, once again, different first pages to peek through the cover". The contributors to this noir-ish issue are editor Stephen Gan, Edward Gorey, Ruben Toledo, Bill Cunningham, Elaine Gan, Juan Botas, Bruce Weber, Mats Gustafson, Mario Testino, Francois Berthoud, Karen Park, Gregory Foley, Bernard Figueroa, David McDonough, Mika Mizutani, Max Vadukl, Satoshi Sakusa, Peter Lindbergh, Ross Bleckner, Michel Haddi, Enrique Badulescu, Andrew Brucker, Philippe Salomon, Noelle Hoeppe, James Dignan, Michael Capotosto, Michael Stratton, and John Callahan; with a unique hand-assembled photcollage by Kristina Colovic. A most handsome hors commerce display example of this uncommon issue marked "XXX" by the publisher on the rear cover. It has been priced accordingly. Visionaire's own price for this out-of-print back issue is $2,500.00 - when available. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase.
