Description: Leather boards with red mounted title card with gilt lettering; x, [1], [13]-285 pp. First edition was printed in 1823. From Wikipedia: "View of the Hebrews is an 1823 book written by Ethan Smith, a Congregationalist minister in Vermont, who argued that Native Americans were descended from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel, a relatively common view during the early nineteenth century." Good- (Boards are heavily edgeworn/scuffed/smudged; front cover is very loosely attached; title card is loose; spine strip is heavily worn; rear cover outer hinge is cracking; textblock edges are toned/scuffed/smudged; interior is lightly toned and moderately foxed; textblock appears solid.)

Condition: Good

Description: Second edition in original binding. Brown leather is scratched and rubbed, corners bumped, edges shelf worn, chip/tear at head of spine. Spine is rubbed with red label and gilt titling worn so still readable but not fully legible. Binding is intact but loosening at front hinge. Front free endpaper is partially attached. Interior is age-toned with some foxing throughout and a wormhole to bottom corner of 30 pages near the rear. Overall good condition, especially for age. This book is considered source material for the Book of Mormon, originally published in 1823, seven years prior to the publishing of the Book of Mormon in 1830. It outlines the view that Native Americans were descended from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel, a widely held belief at the time but set down here by Ethan Smith.
