Description: Verve was one of the most influential publications of art and literature. Issues 3 & 4 are bound together here in this book. The original front and rear covers are retained. Vol 3 : Oct-Dec 1938 , cover design by Pierre Bonnard includes original lithographs by Marc Chagall, Abraham Rattner, Joan Miro and Paul Klee as well as 6 lithographs from "The Indian Pantheon". Vol 4 : January- March, 1939 , cover design by Georges Rouault includes original lithographs by Henri Matisse (x3), one of them double paged, 2 original lithographs by André Derrain 8 lithographs from the "Tacuinum Sanitaris". Texts by numerous authors including Jean Paul Sartre. Internally the book is very clean and bright with no marks or inscriptions. This English Edition focuses on Eastern Art both Muslim and Indian with text by Rabindrinath Tagore and Andre Malraux a.o., Chinese poetry, and numerous examples of eastern paintings and illuminations [with gold stamping on pages] and their influence on modern European Artists such as Matisse, Bonnard, Chagall, Miro, Klee etc. Also present in this issue, and this being only one of several, is a photo set by Gaetan Fouquet on the Hindu portfolio.
